Our contemporary classes are fun lessons for students in Grades 1-8 and are designed to complement their ballet training. Students are introduced to various contemporary techniques and new ways of moving through space, including floor work and partner work.
Each class begins with a gentle improvisation, encouraging dancers to connect with their bodies and establish the focus for the session. A contemporary-based warm-up follows, designed to develop fluidity, expansiveness, and joint mobility in preparation for more dynamic movement. This warm-up often introduces elements of floor work, which are gradually expanded and refined in subsequent classes.
The session then progresses to traveling sequences and jumps, where dancers explore space, dynamics, and momentum. These exercises provide opportunities to experiment with extensions such as leg kicks and rolls, fostering smooth transitions in and out of the floor.
Creative exploration is at the heart of every class. Through group choreography or improvisation tasks, dancers are encouraged to spark their imagination and express individuality. The class culminates in a lively combination set to energetic music, promoting confidence, performance skills, and joy in movement.
Each session concludes with a gentle cool-down and relaxation, allowing the body to stretch, release tension, and return to stillness.
