Pointe classes are taught by a highly experienced teacher who fully understands the demands of pointework.
The class begins with foot and ankle strengthening exercises, then on to barre work and later moves into the centre.
Small class sizes ensure that all dancers receive individual attention so that they can safely progress from beginner to more advanced steps.
Classes also include advice on how to prepare and look after pointe shoes.
Students who wish to go en pointe are invited to attend pre-pointe classes in order to build the strength and mobility required for pointe shoes.
In order to prevent injury, an individual assessment of each dancer is always made before going en pointe.
This not only looks at the technique and physical development of each child, but whether they possess the emotional maturity needed to dance en pointe.
As a result, dancers may progress onto pointe at different ages.
