Ballet Development
Mid Ballet Development is designed to complement the Grade 3 and Grade 4 syllabus, and Senior Ballet Development for Grade 5+. The classes focus on the technique and vocabulary required at middle and higher levels of training.
In keeping with the Royal Academy of Dance’s philosophy that we must first teach the language of ballet before applying it within the set material, these classes prioritise learning the steps and technical skills which are then applied in the separate syllabus lessons.
Time in Ballet Development is devoted to breaking down and refining the key movements required for these levels, helping students build a deeper understanding of placement, coordination, and musicality.
While the exercises are rooted in the requirements of the syllabus, additional variations and movements are sometimes introduced to expand vocabulary and versatility. This encourages students to become adaptable, expressive dancers who can respond confidently to new choreography.
Each session also includes mat-based stretch and strengthening work, helping dancers to develop correct alignment and build strong physical foundations.
Optional pointe is also included in Senior Ballet Development.
The RAD recommend a minimum of 60 hours of guided learning which equates to attending classes twice per week over one year.
Therefore, this class is highly recommended for students wishing to take RAD examinations. Please note that exams are always optional.
